Elenora Berger's Top 5 'To Do' for recent High School Graduates

Know of any recent High School Graduates?  I am sure everyone of us knows at least one.  With the recent graduation season just behind us, a new crop of fashionistas are on their way to becoming stars!  There is nothing wrong with that but before we become stars, there are a few things we MUST accomplish, and one of them is to get an Education.  One of the lingering questions on the minds of many recent high school graduates is "Now what?".

To help prepare for the next phase of their lives, Eleonora Berger, High School English Teacher, suggests "familiarizing yourself with your school’s general academic requirements is one of the best ways to prepare for college. Even if you haven't yet decided on a major."

To guide them on the best way to answer that lingering question, here are Eleonora Berger's Top 5 'To Dos' over the summer:

1. Apply for scholarships: http://www.scholarshipexperts.com/college-life/college-scholarship-checklist.
This is helpful to ease that financial burden for college.  The more applications submitted, the better your chances are for getting one.

2. Apply for internships: http://www.internships.com/summerinternships/high-school-students
An internship on your resume is so helpful and will provide some experience for your job search after graduation.  It can sometimes expose you to another area of expertise that you never knew you were interested.

3.Travel and explore: http://www.rusticpathways.com/
The best way to gain some experience, and exposure to other cultures, people, places and ideas is to travel.  If you are able to, do it!

4. Buy books ahead of time by researching the cheapest prices (contact campus bookstore).
Course books can be expensive.  If taking 18 credits per semester, that is roughly 6 classes and at about $300 average per class.  The cost for books can add up.  Some sites that offers text book at cheaper prices are www.chegg.com, www.cheapesttextbooks.com and www.betterworldbooks.com.

5. Look for Course Information Online-Many professors and instructors will post course outlines or even full syllabi on the web. Explore your college's web site and see if this is the case for some or all of your courses. You'll know when major reading assignments and papers will be due and when you'll be taking major exams before you even set foot in the classroom.
