Top 5 things you need when transitioning from Winter to Summer

As the summer months creep up...slowly but surely.... one of the very first thing on our mind is normally to get in shape for those loosely dressed hot summer nights.  As we make up our minds to take on one of the biggest challenge in our lives, which is to finally loose that weight, I would like to help you make that transition and offer some help in what motivates me.  Hopefully it will motivate you as well.

These are the top 5 things that I always need for working out:

1. Music and Imagination:  The music that I use to work out is always fast paced, preferably soca, R&B, hip hop and house music.  I normally choose to listen to an artist that I admire; preferably a female artist.  I normally imagine myself in a music video dancing to the beat of the music.  This helps me to escape the gym and work out in my fantasy world.  The work out becomes secondary after a while and you would not imagine how much work out time you can get in by just doing this simple trick.

Here are some links to my favorite music:

2. Cute Work out Clothes:  Forget about motivating yourself with an old ripped tshirt and baggy shorts.  Who feels good working out in old clothes?  The ultimate goal after reaching your ideal weight is to feel good about yourself.  So why work out in something that does not make you feel your best?  Get bright colors and fitted tshirts.  Make sure your tshirts and tights are matching or coordinates well.  This helps me and I am passing it on to you.  Hopefully it helps you stay on track.  Here are some cute active wear options.  These can be purchased at www.nike.com, www.oldnavy.com and various sports stores around town.

3. Work Out Hair: Ok yes! I may be overdoing it, but the hair done up helps to keep me motivated.  For the girls with natural locks, you are the luckiest of all.  Work those natural locks!  For those of us with a perm, I know it is tough to keep your hair looking its best the next day, especially when you cannot manage a daily wash.  My secret, a bun that sits on the very top of your head.  To help with making a bun atop your head, use a sock or a bun maker to assist you. This tiny little thing can work wonders:

4. Shoes: You MUST have the right pair of sneakers to work out.  It is no question!  But does it have to look orthopedic?  NO!!  You can find comfort and looks all in one.  This is your time to go crazy!  Amuse yourself with sneakers that are full of color, style but above all COMFORT!  Go to www.nike.com and go crazy.  Create your own sneakers and customize your colors for that fun fabulous workout!

5. Gym: Get yourself a gym membership that works for you financially.  Remember to start slow.  Do not think you can conquer the world in two weeks.  It took you some time to gain the weight and it will take you some time to lose it.  Trying to lose everything in two weeks will only defeat the purpose of working towards a healthy lifestyle but my number one suggestion is to get yourself a coach, trainer or someone that can assist with helping to motivate you.

Have a great summer and a cute, fun filled workout!
